Traffic Accident

On May 20th, 2021, at or around 10:20 PM, there was a traffic accident at the corner of East Livingston Avenue and McNaughten Road.  Five cars were involved; three that sustained minor damage to their car pulled into the Dollar Store's parking lot, and after a brief, heated discussion, departed the scene.  All three were headed north on McNaughten.  The driver of the heavily damaged miniature SUV in the bushes fled on foot, either into the wooded area adjacent to the storage sheds, east along Livingston Ave.  My thought is that he'd be seeking a resting place at a nearby bar.

I took a few photos as shown below.

I went  out late this morning to see if any real damage had been done to the Evergreen covered embankment.

Where the SUV Came to Rest

As you can see, no real damage to McNaughten Village occurred, but if it weren't for the man-made embankment and evergreen trees, the SUV would likely have ended up on someone's front porch.

The photo below shows the remains of the day, which leads me to wonder just who, if anyone, is responsible for cleaning up after an accident.  I suspect the debris will remain until it gets hit by a car and dragged down the road.

A Contributing Factor

Anyone who as tried to cross McNaughten Road knows that it's a blind curve.  Add the speed factor, as no one wants to wait for the traffic light, and the common courtesy found on the road these days, and it's worth your life to try crossing on foot.  Go down to the light and cross.

Traffic in this area is hazardous, and the CPD could not possibly care less.  While a few of us watched the procession, we saw one SUV in the right lane decide she didn't want to wait, and ran another SUV off the road.  Both drivers laid on their horns - and the police never gave them a second glance.  One was too busy writing a report, and the other was doing something else.  If the CPD wanted to enforce traffic laws, two units could have a full time job writing tickets at this corner.
