Shooting and Fireworks

Last Sunday morning there was a shooting next to our happy home.  No one in McNaughten Village was arrested or injured, which is not surprising.  We're the hole in the doughnut on every crime map on the Internet.

Fox News carried the story here: Two Injured After Being Shot Multiple Times with Rifle in East Columbus

From the article:

On Sunday, February 17th, at around 2:00 a.m., Sheema Fairly, 25, and Antonio Banks, 43, were in a car on Livingston Avenue at McNaughten Road when someone pulled up and shot them multiple times. Fairly and Banks were taken to a local hospital and are expected to survive.

Anyone with information about the crime or suspect should call Columbus Police Assault Detective Pappas at 614-645-4141 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS(8477).

The police have no leads, at least none that anyone is willing to talk about.

What the report doesn't mention is that at the same time as the shooting, someone was setting off fireworks on either Little Brook or Hallworth Ct.  Probably leftovers from last year's July Fourth celebrations.  I watched the fireworks, which were about one step below commercial quality, then heard what I thought was a series of large firecrackers - about five, if memory serves.  Then the official Columbus Police Department Ghetto Bird showed up and circled the area, keeping me awake until quarter to three.

Walking to and from the old Hub Bar just isn't as safe as it used to be.  Right JoAnne?

  1. I spoke with a reliable source who told me that the man was driving and got hit six times. The woman riding shotgun got hit once and suffered a collapsed lung. She fled the scene on foot, which likely kept her from taking more hits.

I saw the cops at breakfast yesterday, and no one has been apprehended nor are there any leads. At least none that anyone would admit to, and who would talk to me.
